🌱 Why I Stopped Chasing Success and Started Defining It Myself
For most of my life, I chased an idea of success that wasn’t really mine.
It looked like the usual checklist: a high-paying job, a busy schedule, constant achievements, admiration from others, and always doing more. I thought that’s what success was supposed to be — fast-paced, loud, impressive. So I pushed myself. I worked hard, stayed busy, and set goal after goal. And while I achieved a few things, I often felt empty when I reached them. Like I was chasing something that never really wanted to be caught.
Eventually, I realized that I was chasing someone else’s definition of success — not mine.
I was constantly comparing myself to others. To people online, on LinkedIn, on Instagram. I thought success meant being “ahead,” but I never asked myself ahead of who? or for what purpose? I was measuring my worth by timelines and titles that didn’t actually make me feel fulfilled.
That’s when everything changed.
I decided to pause. To get quiet. To ask myself what success actually means to me, without all the noise.
And here’s what I discovered:
Success, for me, isn’t just about how much I achieve — it’s about how I feel while I’m living.
It’s waking up without dread. It’s having time for breakfast. It’s doing work that feels meaningful, not just profitable. It’s slow walks, deep conversations, creative moments, and peace of mind. It’s being kind, not just being “known.” It’s showing up for people I love — and myself — without burning out.
Once I redefined success, everything started to feel lighter. I stopped forcing myself into paths that didn’t feel right. I stopped overcommitting just to look busy or important. I started choosing enough over more. I gave myself permission to celebrate the small wins — like rest, presence, and joy — even if they weren’t flashy.
And guess what? I still work hard. I still have goals. But now they come from a place of intention, not pressure. I no longer feel like I’m running a race I didn’t sign up for.
If you’ve ever felt tired of chasing a version of success that doesn’t feel like yours, know this: you are allowed to define it differently. You’re allowed to make it soft, slow, personal, quiet, or whatever feels true to you.
Because at the end of the day, success means nothing if it costs you your peace, your health, or your joy.
💬 Final Thought
Success isn’t a one-size-fits-all formula. It’s something you get to design — gently, honestly, and in a way that actually feels like home.
